New Jersey commercial tax preparers are invited to the Tax Practitioner Institute sponsored by the New Jersey Association of Public Accountants (NJAPA), Internal Revenue Service, the New Jersey Division of Taxation, and cooperating colleges/universities. It is geared toward the intermediate and advanced tax preparer and no pre-requisite is required. The materials and evaluation will be available online before the webinar.

To avoid the webinar fatigue, instead of an eight-hour session the presentation will be broken down into two four (4) hour sessions. Each session will consist of three hours of Federal topics and one hour of NJ State topics. The Presentation will begin at 9 am and end at 1 pm.

The topics to be presented by Internal Revenue Service speaker Glenn Gizzi and NJ State speakers Mike Kovacs and Tilesha McCall, are as follows:

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, all dates will be virtual. To get the full credit you need to register for one A session and one B session. Eight (8) CPE credits will be issued in Taxation and six (6) CE for EA's and those in the Annual Filing Season Program (AFSP), to those who complete both sessions. The pre-registration fee for commercial tax preparers is $85 ($35 for full time Students, ID required, no certificate issued)

Glenn J. Gizzi

Glenn has worked for the Internal Revenue Service for 33 years. He began in Taxpayer Service in 1989 as a Taxpayer Service Specialist answering account and tax law questions on the IRS’s toll-free phone line until becoming a Revenue Agent in 1994. During his 11 years as an Agent, Glenn worked in the Examination Problem Resolution Unit as a caseworker, a cooperating Agent for Criminal Investigations and was a Taxpayer Advocate at the model walk-in office in Edison. Glenn is also a certified instructor for the IRS and has spent four years training the new incoming Revenue Agents from 2001 to 2005. Additionally, Glenn worked in the former Taxpayer Education & Communication division during its stand-up in 2001 before it was eventually realigned into Communications & Liaison. His current assignments include the Annual Federal State Tax Workshops, North & South Jersey Working Together, AARP, multilingual association, school districts and the underserved community. Tilesha McCall

Tilesha began her career with the Division’s Customer Service Call Center where she received extensive training and gained vast knowledge of all taxes administered by the State. After a few years in the Call Center and wanting to fulfill her love for teaching, she joined the Taxation University Team. Tilesha provides internal trainings for Division employees and educates the public on all taxes and property tax relief programs administered by the State. She conducts seminars for tax professionals, the business community, and New Jersey residents. She’s married, a mother of three, and the Women’s Ministry leader at her church. Michael Kovacs

Mike has been with the Division since 2003. He started his career as a Customer Service Call Center agent before moving to the Trenton Regional Information Center where he provided direct assistance to the public. He has been with Taxation University since 2013. His customer service background has given him a well-rounded knowledge in all tax types. He recently took a primary role in representing the Division at our Small Business Workshops where he conducts presentations on New Jersey Income and Business Taxes.

Solange Pimentel

Solange provides training for Division employees and educates the public on personal and business taxes, and property tax relief programs. She began her career with the Division as a Call Center Agent in 2006 receiving extensive training in all New Jersey taxes. Solange is bilingual and staffed the Division’s Spanish speaking line before it was discontinued. Solange’s outgoing personality coupled with her extensive customer service skills and tax knowledge add great value to the Taxation University Team. Solange is a happily married woman and mother of two. She’s involved in her Church and enjoys nature and spending quality time with family and friends.

Lisa Handelman

Lisa has been an Auditor with Inheritance Tax for 12 years where she has performed many duties within the Branch including audit, special projects, screening and training with the Taxation University Team. Lisa recently initiated a program along with the Taxation University Team with the goal of educating all New Jersey residents about New Jersey Inheritance Tax. She received a BA from the University of Michigan and an MBA in Public Accounting from The Rutgers Graduate School of Management.
