New Jersey commercial tax preparers are invited to the Tax Practitioner Institute sponsored by the New Jersey Association of Public Accountants (NJAPA), Internal Revenue Service, the New Jersey Division of Taxation, and cooperating colleges/universities. This is a one-day institute being held on October 23, 2018. It is geared toward the intermediate and advanced tax preparer and no pre-requisite is required. The materials will be available online and food will be provided at the seminar including evaluations. The topics to be presented by Internal Revenue Service are as follows:

IRS Income Tax Update & TCJA, Data Breach and more

The topics to be presented by State of New Jersey Division of Taxation are as follows:

NJ Income Tax Update and Recent Tax Law Changes, New Jersey Property Relief, and more. 

Registration desk will open at 8:00 am. The session begins promptly at 8:30 am, with breaks and lunch, and concludes at 4:30 pm. Eight (8) CPE credits will be issued in Taxation and 6 CE for EA's and those in the Annual Filing Season Program (AFSP), to those who complete the session. The pre-registration fee for commercial tax preparers is $140 ($35 for full time Students, ID required, no certificate issued). Those who register at the door will be required to pay a $155 fee. In order to qualify for the lower remittances, payments must be received no later than one week before the scheduled seminar. There will be no refunds.

Bryan D Coffey

Bryan currently works as a Stakeholder Liaison out of the Edison, NJ office. He’s been at this position since September 2005. Bryan started with the Internal Revenue Service in 1985 as a Taxpayer Service Representative in Newark. After about 3 years he became a Tax Auditor and stayed in that position for about 10 years. Around 2001, Bryan began working in a pilot group called the Non-Enforcement Compliance Group. This group focused on educating new business owners on their tax responsibilities. This group dissolved after about 2 years, when Taxpayer Education and Communication (TEC) was formed. In TEC, Bryan worked as a Tax Specialist for about 4 years. Bryan graduated from the University of Alabama in 1984 with a degree in Business Administration. Glenn Gizzi

Glenn has worked for the Internal Revenue Service for 30 years. He began in Taxpayer Service in 1989 as a Taxpayer Service Specialist until becoming a Revenue Agent in 1994. During his 11 years as an Agent, Glenn worked in the Examination Problem Resolution Unit as a caseworker, a cooperating Agent for Criminal Investigations and was a Taxpayer Advocate at the model walk-in office in Edison. Glenn is also a certified instructor for the IRS and has spent 4 years training the new incoming Revenue Agents from 2001 to 2005. Additionally, Glenn worked in the former Taxpayer Education & Communication division during its standup in 2001 before it was realigned into the Communications, Liaison and Disclosure division which is now Communication & Stakeholder Outreach. His current assignments include the Annual Federal State Tax Workshop, North & South Jersey Working Together and American Payroll Association. Jacob Foy

Jacob supervises the New Jersey Division of Taxation’s Education & Outreach Unit. Jacob started with the Division sixteen years ago in the Customer Service Center and has worked for the Problem Resolution Unit and the Taxpayer Service Walk-In Center. He was most recently a Case Advocate with the Division’s Office of the Taxpayer Advocate (OTA) where he spent three years providing assistance to resolve ongoing taxpayer problems and disputed state tax issues. His experience with Sales Tax, Employer Responsibilities, Income Tax and Property Tax Relief Programs has placed him in leadership of the Education & Outreach Unit, where he focuses on educating Division staff and the public to better understand New Jersey tax responsibilities. Jacob is a songwriter and a musician, playing guitar, drums, piano, accordion, banjo and the mandolin. He writes music for film and theater and performs in a band playing original music. Christina Quinones

Christina started with the Division in 2007 in the Customer Service Call Center. During her 8 years in the Division’s Customer Service center she gained a vast knowledge of all taxes and programs administered by the Division. Prior to joining Taxation University Tina was a Practitioner Hotline agent. She provided expert assistance to the tax professional and business community. Tina’s tax knowledge and customer service experience is a strong asset to the Taxation University Team. Tina is a loving mother of three and an avid baker. D. Alexis Reid

Alexis is a Taxpayer Service Representative in the Taxation University Branch. She provides instruction for all tax types, computer science, and teaches personal and professional development skills in areas such as leadership and team building. As with all team members she also creates and edits our training materials. Alexis’s vast tax knowledge, presenting history, and cheerful disposition make her a sought after and often requested public speaker. Alexis started with the Division’s Customer Service Center in 2001. She has since worked with the Customer Service Training Department, has served as the team leader of Taxation’s Outreach Unit, and has served as the administrator and trainer of the Division’s internal training department. Alexis provides various courses and workshops to the public on taxes and programs administrated by the Division of Taxation. Her knowledge of New Jersey tax responsibilities and her experience with Internal Training has given her the opportunity to assist Division employees, New Jersey residents, small businesses, and tax professionals. Abra M. Watson

Abra has been with the Division for eighteen years and has been an instructor since 2008. She schedules and takes the lead on training our Customer Service Center employees. She also teaches classes for our Division wide training program and provides instruction and information at public events all over New Jersey and beyond. Her background in customer service, her extensive tax knowledge, and enthusiasm for public speaking make her an irreplaceable member of our team. In her spare time, Abra loves singing, acting, and writing poetry. She is an accomplished community theater singer and actress. Tilesha McCall

Tilesha provides training to Division employees and educates the public on all taxes and property tax relief programs administered by the State. She also instructs courses on professional development, leadership and team building skills. She began her career with the Division's Customer Service Call Center where she received extensive training. After a few years and wanting to fulfill her love for teaching, she joined Taxation University Team. She's happily married and a mother of two. She's also the Creative Arts Director at her church and loves to travel. Let's just say she keeps busy.
